Pullen underwent an internal investigation and was cleared of any wrongdoing after two excessive force incidents in 2011. Pullen, however, was later terminated in August by Pearson, and the reason given was for using excessive force in the previous incidents.
However, Pullen was, in fact, fired after it became public that he had filed a racial discrimination complaint against the department after he was passed over for promotion by an allegedly less qualified black officer. Pullen, who is white, later filed a lawsuit in District Court in Jasper County against Pearson, and the City of Jasper.
Following his termination in Jasper, Pullen worked at the Kilgore Police Department under Police Chief Todd Hunter, who is also a former Jasper police chief.
Money was also part of the settlement. Very reliable sources within City Hall told KJAS News that the amount was $85,000.
