Game warden critically injured on Lake Sam Rayburn

JASPER COUNTY - by Steve W Stewart/KJAS and Rayburn Broadcasting

A Texas Parks & Wildlife game warden was critically injured in an on-duty boat accident on Lake Sam Rayburn over the weekend, and his fellow officers are being credited with saving his life.

The incident occurred shortly after 4:00 on Sunday afternoon near the Tiger Creek area.

According to game wardens at the scene, Henry Alvarado was somehow thrown out of the boat he was in, and the prop then cut his left leg, leaving severe trauma.

Paramedics who transported Alvarado to Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital are crediting other game wardens with saving his life. The paramedics said Alvarado's main artery in his leg was severed, and if the other game wardens had not have applied pressure tourniquets, Alvarado would have most likely bled to death.

Alvarado was flown by medical helicopter to a Beaumont hospital where he was, at last word, undergoing treatment.
