Authorities continue to investigate fatal Vidor fire

A man told investigators Monday that he was not at a Vidor home when a fire broke out that killed a 79-year-old woman.

The fire early Sunday morning killed 79-year-old Dorothy Hampshire at her home in the 3000 block of South Main Street in Vidor.

Her
husband of more than 40 years is in intensive care. A relative told
KFDM he should go to a private room in the next day or so and is then
expected to be released.

A caretaker at the home was burned. She
was released Monday afternoon. A 9 year old granddaughter was released
from a hospital Sunday.

Detectives said they were able to find
and speak with a man they could not account for just after the fire was
put out. He told investigators he was not home at the time of the fire.

For now, the State Fire Marshal is calling the cause of the fire undetermined.

A relative told us the family lost everything in the fire.
