PAPD: Zero tolerance for dangerous drivers

PORT ARTHUR - Port Arthur Police are issuing a warning that the department has zero tolerance for dangerous drivers, a point officers plan to drive home in July.

PAPD has declared July "Zero Tolerance Month" for dangerous drivers. Police won't issue any warnings-only citations-for traffic violations in July.

According to Lt. Steve Brinson, the Port Arthur Police Department Traffic Enforcement Unit has recently been inundated with traffic complaints. Lt. Brinson says in a news release although educational efforts have "changed some of the behavior of inattentive drivers, we continue to receive a higher than normal volume of citizen complaints from all over the city. In addition, we have experienced a higher number of traffic fatalities this year, most of which have been auto-pedestrian accidents. With this in mind, we are proclaiming the month of July as "Zero Tolerance Month." Officers will be encouraged to enforce all areas of traffic problems with a special emphasis on speeding, distracted driving violations and seat belts. There will be no warnings, so let this serve as a warning. Please drive safely!
