A Port Arthur Police officer in training jumps in to help his partner as that officer pulls a suicidal man to safety.   Officer Adam Cousins says, "I grabbed him and as I grabbed him he tried to pull back over the rail and so Officer Davis grabbed his leg as I grabbed his upper body and we fell into the road.

Saving the life of a man determined to end his after an argument with his girlfriend. Cousins says, "He said a fight escalated and he told his girlfriend to pull over right there at the overpass and he jumped out and she drove off."
Leaving him on the Highway 73 overpass with Highway 82 looming below.
Cousins said,  "I was nervous. I didn't want to see him fall first of all and then when I grabbed onto him I got even more nervous because I said if he won the battle I was most likely going over with  him. So, it was nerve wracking."

The officers knew it was imperative that they get the man off the ledge because this was what was waiting for him down below. Cousins says, "There was Highway 82 underneath.  That was one of my main concerns when I was talking to him was seeing all the cars down below"
Davis says,  "He didn't tell me that he was going to reach for him. So when he did and he started to struggle my first reaction was to help my partner, get the man follow through with our commitment and bring him to safety so all of us could make it home."
They made it home and the officers received letters of commendation from their shift sergeant.Sgt. Heather Rowe, "They showed great compassion and patience with this man and I think that's something that should be recognized." After hands on training that saved a life
Officer Davis says, "I learned that you have to make a decision and follow through because if we had hesitated it could have been that guy's life."
