Murder trial set for Joshua Latham

SULPHUR, LA - By Justin Hinton, KFDM News

A trial date has been set for an Orange man accused of murdering Tami Higginbotham and tampering with evidence.

The Newton County District Attorney tells KFDM News Joshua Latham’s trial is set for September 22.

“It’s going to be hard to keep our composure, but we’re going to suck it up and try. That’s what we got to do for Tami,” said Bill Mauldin, Tami Higginbotham’s father. “We want justice? We got to suck it up.”

Investigators say Higginbotham traveled from her home in Vinton, Louisiana to meet with Joshua Latham about buying a cell phone in Feb. 2013.

Officers found her body one week later in a Newton County hunting club. Latham was charged with 1st degree felony charge of murder and a 2nd degree felony charge of tampering with evidence.

After his bond was reduced, he bonded out but was put in the Orange County Jail after violating his probation.

“I’d look right at him and say, ‘You’re a punk coward for murdering my daughter, and I hope you get prison time,’” said Bill Mauldin.

Linda Mauldin, Higginbotham’s mother, said the family learned just last week, Higginbotham would have been a grandmother.

“This person has taken this joy away from all of us and has taken this away from her son to have his mother here for this occasion,” she said.
The family says it’s ready to see justice.

“Hopefully I’ll be able to see it because we haven’t seen it yet,” said Staci Robinson, Higginbotham’s sister.Murder trial set for Joshua Latham
