Store manager shoots man following scuffle in gas station

HARRIS COUNTY - by Jacqueline Crea/KHOU 11 News and www.khou.com

Deputies took a gas station manager in for questioning after he shot a man who was allegedly causing trouble inside a northwest Harris County business overnight.

According to the Harris County Sheriff's Office, witnesses said an intoxicated man came into the Shell station on Greenwood Forest Drive at FM 1960 around 9:15 p.m. Thursday.

A worker said the man was yelling and knocking things over, so he called the manager to come to the store. One witness even snapped photos of a bystander attempting to hold down the intoxicated man.

The manager arrived but was unable to get the man to leave, deputies said. The manager went back to his car, got his gun, and then returned to the store where a scuffle ensued.

Eventually the man went outside but pulled what witnesses said looked like a box cutter. The man allegedly lunged at the store manager, so the manager shot him.

The man, 39, was taken to Ben Taub Hospital where he was still recovering Friday morning.

The shooter was taken into custody for questioning. There was no immediate word on possible charges, if any.
