Beaumont police look for man connected to sexual assaults

BEAUMONT-by Kara Dixon

Officer Stewart Hanley has been with the Beaumont police department for 10 years.

"The feeling of helping your fellow man and doing something that is worthwhile on a daily basis" said Hanley.

Hanley patrols the north end of town where a man has attacked three women since May. Officers, like Hanley, have increased their presence in this area.

"We like to get out and meet and greet with these people and be seen. Not only to make them feel more secure, but to get some information by getting out and talking to these people" said Hanley.

He hopes this type of information will catch the man police are looking for.

A woman was sexually assaulted in the parking lot of  Ashley Square Townhomes on 7th Street On June 24th . Police say they are looking for a thin dark skinned black man with large bulging eyes, a wide flat nose, who is clean shaven, is about 5’ 9’’ to 5’ 10’’ tall and was wearing a hat with earflaps and fur on the brim.

In April, resident Elena Ivanova moved to the Ashley Square Townhomes. Ivanova says she’s shocked. "I heard it through the neighbor. It's a little unsettling of course” Ivanova said.

Ivana says she usually doesn't spend too much time outside. She usually only sees other neighbors, but now, she will be more cautious.

"I would probably pay a little more attention while I’m out here trying to get into the car. Maybe it's not a bad idea to look around” she said.

Looking around is one of many tips Officer Hanley suggests to stay safe. "Try to stay in well-lit areas. Keep a phone, a charged phone, on you at all times. Limit your social media information, your comings and goings when you're home .What time you're coming home. You don't want to give any undue information to people who may wish to because you harm” he says

The police want residents to be aware of their surroundings and if they see anything suspicious just call: 833-TIPS.
