Former NFL players are one step closer to receiving financial and medical help for head injuries.

A federal judge granted preliminary approval Monday for the NFL concussion settlement .

Beaumont's Frank Middleton is one of 4,500 players to file suit.

Middleton coaches at Kelly High School. He joined the lawsuit to help older retirees who may have brain  diseases stemming from concussions.

The NFL agreed to drop a $625 million cap on the settlement last month.
