Construction on Lamar football stadium to begin Monday
Construction will begin Monday, June 29, on Provost Umphrey Stadium and the new athletic complex on the Lamar University campus. The project will begin with the removal of the existing bleacher seating in the stadium, which is expected to start between 8 and 10 a.m.
Construction of the brand new state-of-the-art athletic complex, which incorporate many of the features of the existing Higgins Field House, will start between 8 and 10 a.m. Monday, July 6.
Renovation and expansion of the stadium and athletic complex is scheduled for completion in 2010, before the beginning of the official football season. A new field lighting system is included in the renovation of the football complex.
SeTEX Construction Corp. is contractor for the stadium/athletic complex project.
Work began June 9 to prepare for installation of state-of-the-art field turf at W.S. "Bud" Leonard Field in Provost Umphrey Stadium.
