Lamar Softball begins spring practice
BEAUMONT, Texas The Lamar University softball team moved another step toward its first official game since 1987 when it held its first practice today. The Lady Cardinals are preparing for the Feb. 9 season opener against UTSA as the university brings back softball after an absence of more than 25 years.
Because of the inclement weather, the team worked out at Lamars Strait Hitting Facility, located next to Vincent-Beck Stadium. The Lady Cardinals plan to hold most of their practices at Ford Park, where the team will play its home games this season.
I It was a good first day of practice, Lamar coach Holly Bruder said. It was a good starting point from where we left off in the fall. I think the break helped us physically and mentally.
The Lady Cardinals will play a full Southland Conference schedule this spring, and will be eligible for postseason play. In all, Lamar has a 52-game schedule, with 21 home games over 14 dates.
Opening day will be here before you know it, Bruder said. Were really excited about the season.
Season tickets and individual tickets are now on sale. For ticket information, call (409) 880-1715, or visit www.LamarCardinals.com.
