LoveYoga travels to India
The Beaumont-based yoga studio LoveYoga is hitting the road to spend over a week working with local organizations in India for the charity Off The Mat and Into The World between February 3 and February 15, according to owner/director Tiffany Maloney.
During their time in India, they will learn about leadership and advocacy programs for sex trafficking victims, construct a new children's study area, build a composting machine at Clean Himalaya, build and paint a shelter for teenage girls at Sanlaap, support dance movement therapy and build a new Center of Excellence at Kilkata Sanved and help with construction and painting as they get to know the women at Made By Survivors.
Maloney said she raised her personal goal of $20,000 over the past year and due to that achievement will have the chance to go to India, participate in the implementation of the funds and receive a scholarship to one of the charity's leadership and advocacy training programs in Los Angeles.
Overall, they raised over $1 million project wide to help sex trafficking victims, Maloney said.
WHAT YOU CAN DO:
Maloney will be collecting travel sized toiletries like toothpaste, soap, deodorant, laundry soap and shampoo which she intends to take to India as a "donation love offering".
LoveYoga is scheduled to host a Yoga Basics workshop at 11 a.m. on February 2, 2013. Attendance costs $40, however anyone who brings donation items will get 50 percent off of the workshop cost.
