18 wheeler, SUV involved in fatal collision

PORT ARTHUR - Police are investigating a fatal accident involving a small SUV and an 18-wheeler.

According to Sergeant Scott Gaspard with the Port Arthur Police Department, the accident happened about 2:30 p.m.

Investigators believe the driver of a small Subaru SUV was going the wrong way on Highway 73 East.

Officials say the driver of an 18-wheeler was on the overpass at Highway 82 and could not avoid hitting the SUV. The 18-wheeler driver may not have even seen the smaller vehicle approaching.

The driver of the SUV, a man from Orange, was killed on impact. There were no passengers.

The driver of of the 18-wheeler was not injured.
