Beaumont police catch second west end attempted burglary suspect
BEAUMONT - Two men are in custody after police say they broke into a home, pulled a shotgun on officers and set off a seven-hour manhunt through Beaumont's West End today.
A woman in the eight-hundred block of Shakespeare Boulevard called police shortly before noon. She told police that two men were attempting to break into her home.
Police found the men a few blocks away. When officers confronted the pair, investigators say one of the men pulled out a gun.
Investigators say the officer and the man with the gun got into a struggle.
No one was injured, and both suspects got away. Witnesses reported seeing up to 15 police cars participating in the man hunt.
Police found one suspect a few hours later. Police say witnesses help lead to the first arrest.
The second man --the one police say pulled a gun on an officer -- led police on a chase through the area for most of the afternoon.
Police used a search helicopter, K-9 units, officers on horseback and help from the community to search for the man in the area surrounding the HEB on Dowlen Road.
Just before 7 p-m, police arrested the second suspect at Park West and Dowlen.
Officers say the first man they took into custody will face charges of burglary of a habitation.
The second man will face additional charges.
