Kountze ISD board names Reese Briggs lone finalist for superintendent

KOUNTZE - The Kountze ISD school board has named interim superintendent Reese Davis the lone finalist for the superintendents' job.

The board made its decision during a Thursday night  meeting.

Former superintendent Kevin Weldon resigned from his positon at the end of last year to accept the superintendent's job in the Tarkington ISD in Liberty County.

Weldon became assistant superintendent in the Kountze ISD in August 2012.

He graduated from Bridge City HS in 1982, received his undergraduate degree from the University of Texas - Arlington and his Masters of Education from SFA in Nacogdoches.

The district has been it the spotlight because of the religious banners case. State District Judge Steven Thomas ruled this week Kountze High School cheerleaders could display religious messages on run through banners at sporting events without violating the Establishment Clause of the Constitution nor any other law.

The district and board are in the process of amending policy guidelines related to the religious banners.
