DPS: Intoxicated driver caused 4 car collision

BRIDGE CITY - Troopers with the Department of Public Safety said an intoxicated driver who traveled the wrong way on Highway 73 east struck 3 vehicles at about 8:45 pm, Friday.

Troopers said the driver was traveling on the Rainbow Bridge toward Bridge City.

The driver struck one vehicle, then hit another vehicle head-on, then struck the tire of an 18-wheeler before coming to a stop.

DPS said a medical helicopter transported the driver who was traveling the wrong way to Christus Hospital Saint Elizabeth where he went into immediate surgery.

An ambulance transported another driver to a local hospital with a broken femur.
