Nolan Ryan's son named President, CEO of Astros
HOUSTON - by KHOU 11 News and www.khou.com
The Houston Astros are set to announce the hiring of Reid Ryan, son of Hall-of-Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan, as president and CEO of the team on Friday, a source confirmed Thursday morning.
Reid Ryan is the founder, president and CEO of Ryan-Sanders Baseball and is credited with creating the Round Rock Express and Corpus Christi Hooks baseball clubs. Ryan is a graduate of Texas Christian University, and has been actively involved with the Texas Rangers and Houston Astros farm systems.
The hiring comes after the former president and CEO George Postolos announced his resignation on Monday after working with the club since November 2011. Postolos was instrumental in owner Jim Crane’s purchase of the team.
Ryan inherits a team that has struggled this season with a league-worst record of 11-30 after moving to the American League's West Division from the National League's Central Division. Ryan's Astros will face his father's Rangers on a regular basis as members of the AL West.
