Free HIV, syphilis testing available in the Golden Triangle

About 70,000 people in Texas are living with HIV and nearly 25 percent of those don't even know they have it. But some local activists are trying to change that.

The Texas Department of State Health Services is partnering with Baptist Hospitals and Family Pharmacy to offer free HIV and syphilis testing around the Golden Triangle.

There are 50,000 new cases of the disease every year in the United States and organizers say testing is one way to prevent it from spreading.

Free testing is available at several locations across the area. Those will continue from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. Tuesday at your local Family Pharmacy. No appointment is necessary and testing will be offered on a first come, first serve basis.
