We still have an active weather pattern for Sunday into next week with locally heavy thunderstorms developing with daytime heating. Some of the storms will produce gusty winds and frequent lightning strikes. Rain chances remain high for mid week as a cold front sags south into East Texas.

Controlled burn cause of smoke in area

SOUTHEAST TEXAS - A spokesman for the Orange County Sheriff's Office tells KFDM News a controlled burn in the Lakeview area near Vidor is causing smoke to blow into Beaumont.

A number of viewers have called KFDM News and the Beaumont Fire Department to report the smoke.

Sgt. Chad Hogan with the Orange County Sheriff's Office tells KFDM News a controlled burn in the Lakeview area near Vidor is the source of the smoke. 

A dispatcher with Orange County Emergency Services District #1 confirms the information about the controlled burn. He didn't know if a particular agency or private landowner was doing the burning but said heavy smoke is reported in the area just north of Vidor. That smoke is blowing to the south.
