Orange man dies following industrial accident
A 40-year-old Orange man died at St. Elizabeth Hospital following an industrial accident Wednesday morning at the Port of Port Arthur, according to a news release.
During the process of freeing a stuck JLG Manlift, a piece of angle iron about 10 feet long was catapulted from the manlift's basket, striking Mason Construction contractor Juan Antonio Garcia-Hernandez, the release stated.
Garcia-Hernandez was hit in the upper part of his body, the release stated.
While workers had roped off an "exclusion zone" under the manlift the angle iron was thrown outside of that zone, the release stated.
Justice of the Peace Ray Chesson is conducting an inquest into Garcia-Hernandez's death although at the time of the news release Wednesday the Port Arthur Police Department did not anticipate that any criminal charges would be pursued.
