Teen on ATV killed in collision with vehicle

NEWTON COUNTY - A teenager riding an all terrain vehicle has died after a driver collided with the boy's ATV Thursday afternoon in Newton County.

According to the Sheriff's Department, two separate 911 calls came in at about 1 p.m. Thursday, reporting a child had been struck by a vehicle.

Investigators say the 14-year-old had been riding an ATV on FM 2460 when he was struck by a vehicle.

Deputies found the teen lying about ten feet from the ATV. The youngster suffered head injuries. The teen was taken by ambulance to Jasper Memorial Hospital where he died at about 3 p.m.

Investigators aren't releasing the victim's name until they notify relatives.
