Child with double lung transplant released from hospital

JASPER COUNTY - by Steve W Stewart/KJAS & Rayburn Broadcasting Company

Baby Parson Blue Herrington, whose struggle to survive and sheer will to live captured the hearts of southeast Texans over the last few months, left Texas Children's Hospital in Houston on Wednesday, and for the first time in months, she is with her family and without the constant distractions of a hospital.

The day was extra special for Parson, for Wednesday was her first birthday.

Parson, who is the daughter of Rodney & Jennifer Herrington of the Peachtree Community, underwent a successful lung transplant operation less than one month ago, and now the family is asking those who have followed Parson's story to seriously consider becoming an organ donor.

Although the family lives in Peachtree, doctors at Texas Children's Hospital warned the Herrington's that they need to stay close to the facility, just in case something goes wrong. So, the family says Rodney & Jennifer have leased an apartment close to the Texas Medical Center.

In a Wednesday afternoon post on her Facebook page, Parson's grandmother, Janie Clark Sheffield, said "The more people that hear our story, the more organ donor awareness there is and that is our goal, is to make everyone aware of what can happen if you become a donor."

For information on becoming an organ donor, visit your local Texas Department of Public Safety drivers license office, or visit this website:
