Funeral arrangements for Tom Harken

BEAUMONT - Funeral arrangements are set for Tom Harken, a successful businessman who turned his hard work into a success story that made national headlines. Harken died earlier this week of health-related problems. He was 75.

He'd been a longtime owner of Casa Ole' and Crazy Jose's restaurants in Southeast Texas.

When he was a child, health problems put him behind in school and he could barely read and write until later in life. He won a Horatio Alger award for overcoming obstacles and inspiring others.

From Claybar Kelly-Watkins Funeral Home:

His life, his character and the legacy of service he left in Southeast Texas are truly remarkable.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Thursday, July 18 from 5:30 until 8:00 p.m. at Claybar Kelley-Watkins Funeral Home. At 7:00 p.m. we will pause to honor Tom during a special time of remembrance. His service will be held on Friday, July 19 at 2:00 p.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church.
