A better coverage of showers and thunderstorms will begin tomorrow with the best coverage of rain around Thursday and Friday.  Some locally heavy rains will be possible with gusty winds and frequent lightning strikes in the heavier cells.  Withe more clouds, temperatures will be a little cooler for afternoon highs.

84-year-old BPD volunteer retires after two decades

BEAUMONT - An 84-year-old Beaumont woman was honored today for her commitment to helping to protect and serve the community.

Doris Bloodworth has been a volunteer at the Beaumont Police Department substation located inside Parkdale Mall for more than two decades.

Wednesday was her last day on the job.

Bloodworth is retiring after 22 years of service at the substation where she's answered phones and took complaints from residents.

Prior to volunteering at the police department, Bloodworth was a surgical nurse.

In honor of her service, the other volunteers presented her with a cake and thanked her for her commitment to officers.
