Police: Van, tools stolen from bus barn

PORT ARTHUR - By Justin Hinton, KFDM News

A man stole a van and a number of tools including an electric pressure washer from the maintenance mechanic and bus mechanic buildings at the Port Arthur Independent School Districts bus barn Wednesday night, police say, all while staff members were busy working in the transportation building located on the same property.

Surveillance video captures the man roaming around the building carrying different equipment until he drives away in one of the maintenance vans.

The regulatory compliance manager says the key was in the van.
It seems like that he knows the area and he feels comfortable walking around there without the fear of getting caught, said Detective Steve Flores with the Port Arthur Police Department.

From what I was told, they had the maintenance director and her assistant in their office, said Mark Rouly, the regulatory compliance manager. Their office is on the other side.

He also said the property alarm wasnt set because they were still working, just at a different building.

If anybody can recognize him, the features, the way he walks. I know theres somebody out there that may be able to. Some of those features, theyd be able to get us a lead, said Det. Flores.

In the meantime, managers are working to find a solution to prevent this from happening again.
