Man shot outside Beaumont liquor store
BEAUMONT - By Justin Hinton, KFDM News
Family members say a relative is recovering at Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth after someone shot him in the leg.
Police surrounded Messinas Liquor Store on Magnolia Street in Beaumont around 6:30 Thursday afternoon.
A woman who identified herself as the victims sister says the circumstances surrounding her brother being shot had to do with a girl.
I walked in there, I thought he got shot elsewhere, but thank God he got shot in the leg. Only in the leg, but he's doing fine though, said Keturi Smith.
Clyde and Cynthia Brown live across the street from where the shooting took place.
Mr. Brown says he just returned from the store when his wife called him to the front door.
When I got home, when I got in my room, about to get undressed, my wife like, come see, man. I walk right back out. Man, it's just chaos everywhere. And then we saw a gray car right there on the corner. It just sped off, said Mr. Brown.
His wife also saw the man who had been shot.
We saw him and then we seen when they put him inside the ambulance, Mrs. Brown said. It was like he was in excruciating pain. They kept telling him to lay down, lay down, but he kept trying to get up off the stretcher.
The owner of the liquor store did not want to comment on the shooting, but said he has never had problems with his store before in the 60 years hes owned it.
The Beaumont Police Department is investigating.
This story is still developing.
