19-year-old cited in local ATV crash
HARDIN COUNTY - The Texas Department of Public Safety has cited the driver involved in an ATV crash in Hardin County that critically injured a child.
The investigating trooper cited Tkeyah Jones, 19, of Kountze, for operating an ATV on a public street, road or highway. The Class C Misdemeanor isn't punishable by jail time but carries with it a fine of up to $500. The Hardin County District Attorney's Office has decided not to file additional charges.
Troopers say Jones was driving an ATV at about 2:45 p.m. August 4 on Pan-Am Road just north of Kountze when she lost control while trying to make a turn onto Jordan Road and the ATV overturned and the occupants were ejected. Two adults and three children were hurt. The ATV landed on one child. The 9-year-old was critically hurt. All of the occupants live in Kountze. Troopers say none was wearing a seatbelt or helmet.
According to the DPS, "at this time, the two fatal ATV crashes in Bon Weir are being reviewed by the District Attorneys office in Newton County. After review of the crash investigations by the District Attorneys Office, a determination will be made whether or not to file charges in the two separate ATV crashes.
The 9 year old child who was seriously injured in the ATV crash on Pan-Am Road, Noah Thomas, is still listed in stable condition in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at UTMB in Galveston.
Further details will be released as the information becomes available."
