Police: Thieves try to steal copper from radio tower that supports BPD emergency dispatch communications

BEAUMONT - Two men were arrested today after police say they caught the men trying to steal copper from a radio tower used by the Beaumont Police Department dispatch center.

Police say the men were seven feet up on the tower on Meeker Street in the west park of Beaumont cutting wire.

Officials say the radio tower is important because it supports all the emergency communications for the west side of Beaumont and also western Jefferson County.

The suspects are from Orange County.

They will face charges of theft, criminal mischief and criminal trespassing.
