Port Arthur police respond to major accident

PRESS RELEASE:

Officers from the Port Arthur Police Department responded to a major accident in the 3400 block of Gulfway Drive (Highway 87).

Upon arrival, officers found that a 51-year-old Port Arthur man was crossing Gulfway Drive Southbound on his bicycle and was struck by a white Chevrolet pickup that was traveling eastbound.

The truck was driven by a 22-year-old man, also a Port Arthur resident.

The bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Mark Derouen. At the this time no charges have been filed on the driver of the pick-up. The accident reconstruction team and the criminal investigations division are investigating the incident.
