No arrest expected this week in case of suspected abuse of a one-month-old child

KFDM News has learned Jefferson County prosecutors do not expect an arrest this week in the case of a baby who suffered injuries that police say was child abuse.

Doctors at Texas Children's Hospital in Houston are treating one-month old Faith Mason of Port Arthur for nearly two dozen broken bones.

She's in critical but stable condition. Child Protective Services say doctors expect the baby to survive, but aren't sure about the long-term impact of the injuries on her quality of life.

Police and prosecutors say they're investigating several possible suspects, but they won't elaborate publicly.

Today, Jefferson County District Attorney Tom Maness told KFDM News that the case will take more work.

He says investigators will continue working on the case through the weekend.

Prosecutors from Maness' office plan to meet again with Port Arthur detectives early next week following the Labor Day holiday.
