Judge orders change of venue in Colone capital murder trial

JEFFERSON COUNTY - A judge says the large amount of publicity about a capital murder case involving the shooting deaths of a mother and daughter is prompting him to order a change of venue.

Joseph Colone Junior is charged with killing Mary Hernandez Goodman and her daughter, Briana. The 41-year-old woman and her 16-year-old daughter were killed in July 2010 in their apartment in the 4600 block of Hartel Street in south Beaumont.

A tip led officers to Houston where they arrested Colone. If convicted he faces life in prison or the death penalty.

Judge Walker will hold a hearing September 3 to decide a location and date for the trial.
