Investigation continues; attorney says he is waiting for BISD police to contact his clients
An attorney representing a Beaumont school board member and a journalist says he's waiting for school district police to contact and interview his clients about an altercation at a board meeting August 1st.
A member of the superintendent's staff Jessie Haynes blocked the door to a room where reporters were asking questions of the BISD attorney.
Haynes kept trustee Mike Neil from going in.
Neil says he wanted to find out why Jerry Jordan of SET Investigates was not allowed in.
BISD police are investigating but attorney David Vann Decordova, junior says police have not yet contacted his clients.
He has heard from a law firm hired by the district to investigate but in his words: "our concern is that the internal investigation is moving at a 'faster pace' than the criminal investigation." He says that's "putting the cart before the horse."
BISD's police chief has told KFDM News he plans to present a case to municipal court and another to the D.A.'s office he says he'll let those offices decide whether to pursue charges of assault or obstruction.
We've checked with municipal court and the D.A's office. We're told at this point no case has been presented.
The superintendent has placed Haynes on paid leave.
