New banner for Kountze High School cheerleaders

The Kountze High School cheerleaders have prepared a banner with a religious message for the team's first varsity football game this Friday.

The case went to court after the school district said it received complaints about the banners.

In May a judge in Kountze ruled in favor of the cheerleaders. The district appealed and an attorney for Kountze ISD says the district agrees it's not required to prohibit religious banners.

But the attorney says the district wants a court to clarify whether the cheerleaders have the right of free speech to  use the signs with scripture on them during school sponsored events including football games.

While both sides wait for a ruling from the appelate court the team is preparing for football season and the cheerleaders have already prepared their banner.
