12 year old and dispatcher meet
PORT ARTHUR - by Ashley Gaston - It's a phone call that forged a bond.
A child home alone worried about the sound of two men breaking in.
A Port Arthur dispatcher who helped the child remain calm and told the boy to hide in a closet until police could get to the home and help.
The dispatcher and the child met for the first time today.
12 year old Deion Murdock and his family are walking into the Port Arthur Police Department.
They want to meet the person they credit with saving Deions life.
I felt like I already knew her but even more, said Deion.
Until Tuesday, Deion knew the woman only by her voice.
Hello...hi...it's nice to meet you, said LaTonya James.
Now, he's able to match her voice with her face.
It was a pleasure speaking with you, you did a wonderful, wonderful job
James and Murdock developed a bond through a 911 call.
They just broke the window, they just broke the window. Please hurry mam.
Can you lock yourself in the room," according to the 911 call.
The dispatcher guided Deion to safety. A closet is where he waited until officers arrived.
You're amazing because thanks to you we have 2 bad guys off the street and they won't be able to harm anyone, said James.
James handed Deion a Port Arthur police patch and badge for his bravery.
I know it had to be very scary for you and Im just glad youre safe, said James.
Deion and his mother gave the dispatcher a watch and roses.
I'm thankful she was able to hold her composure. I dont know what i would have done without her, said Martha Washington.
Deion said this is a day to remember.
I met the lady who saved me, said Deion.
