Officers with the Jasper Police Department said on Tuesday that information obtained by Detective Bob Walker of the Jasper County Sheriff's Department had resulted in the arrest of a 32 year old Newton County man, who is accused of stealing gold coins from a local attorney.
Detective Garrett Foster said that he and others believe the suspect broke into the law office of Bill McGraw at 132 North Austin Street, here in Jasper, where he stole the rare coins valued at over $7,000.00 and then later sold them in Beaumont.
The suspect was reportedly arrested on Tuesday morning at a home in Newton County, where several of the remaining coins were allegedly found in his possession.
At last word, the suspect, whose name has not been released, pending formal charges and arraignment, was being held at the Jasper County Jail.
