Local city marshal arrested in prostitution sting

KFDM News - Beaumont police arrested a Southeast Texas marshal and six others at the Holiday Inn on Walden Road in a prostitution sting operation.

Investigators put a fake ad on a website they say has gained popularity among people seeking to pay for sex and prostitutes.

Police booked 46-year-old Erik Tolpo into jail at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. He posted a $250 bond and was released at midnight.

Tolpo is the City Marshal in Rose Hill Acres-- a small town south of Lumberton.

Tolpo, five other men, and a woman are charged with Class B prostitution.

If convicted they could face up to six months in jail and up to a $2,000 fine.
KFDM's Justin Hinton explains why a website drew the interest of Beaumont police and led to the sting operation.

Justin spoke by phone with the mayor of Rose Hill Acres about the marshal's job status. The mayor wouldn't comment.
