Controversial topics to be discussed at BISD board meeting

BEAUMONT - An altercation between a board member and the communication specialist for the district is only one of the controversial issues taking shape at Thursday night's BISD board meeting.

The BISD police department investigation into the physical altercation between board member Mike Neil and communication specialist Jessie Haynes is complete. KFDM checked with both the district attorney's office and the municipal court.

The district attorney's office says it has received an obstruction complaint that involves Haynes blocking a door to a meeting in an effort to keep out a journalist.

An aide in municipal court tells KFDM that it hasn't received a case surrounding Haynes' claim of assault board member Mike Neil.

However, trustees are still scheduled to discuss the investigation at Thursday night's board meeting in executive session.

Also behind closed doors, trustees are scheduled to talk about whether the district should try to recover any of what's left of the $2 million that the government seized from electrician Calvin Walker.

The board will also discuss a possible November election. Meanwhile, a judge is deciding whether it should go forward.
