Gator Country grows reptile collection, works on constructing display
If you haven't been to Gator Country just outside of Beaumont on Interstate 10 Gary Saurage's reptile collection is growing by the day.
His latest addition is a Burmese python he got from the Animal Control in Beaumont. It was one they confiscated from a man deemed unfit to take care of the snake after authorities found dead rats and rabbits in the home.
The snake named Damien isn't quite as big as Banana who became famous after getting stolen and then returned to Gator Country, but he's still big at 11 feet long.
Also underway at Gator Country the construction of a 135 foot long steel-framed gator that will go on display along Interstate 10.
Thanks to some generous donations drivers will now see the owner's latest project which should be complete sometime in November.
Along with "Big Al" Gator Country is home to 365 alligators, not counting the one under construction.
