Teaching children about exercising

LUMBERTON - Parents in Lumberton are fighting childhood obesity. They're teaching their kids how to be healthy by working out together.

As part of national childhood obesity awareness month, Anytime Fitness is hosting Rebels and Rugrats every Saturday this month. The kids stretched, ran outside, jumped rope and even lifted a little weight.

Hayley Tampke brought her three-year-old daughter to the class to teach her a healthy lifestyle.

"Obesity is so common nowadays and you got to start them young so you can teach them and they'll grow up knowing, knowing that it's fun to work out and to eat right."

The kids also got a kick out of the class. We asked them why it's important to stay active.  And it looks like these parents' messages got through.
