Colder air will be in place through the weekend into early next week. Periods of mostly light rain can be expected with most of the activity Friday and Sunday. It appears that any risk of freezing rain or sleet will stay to our north and northwest.
Neighbors react to landscaping project they hope will save lives
BEAUMONT - By Justin Hinton, KFDM News
The same intersection where a two-vehicle wreck killed a Beaumont man is getting a makeover.
City workers removed a couple of bushes on the traffic island at the intersection of Phelan and Arlington.
Now that the landscaping project is complete, people who live and work nearby hope it will serve a second purpose saving lives.
There are accidents here usually on average about once a month, said Specialty Shoes and Diabetic Supplies owner Rodger Christopher. I can hope that it makes it a safer intersection, because I hate to see anyone in an accident.
In July, Anthony Cicero, Sr, 80, was killed when a driver ran a red light at the intersection.
Police say he was speeding and pushed Ciceros vehicle onto the curb and onto a homeowners property.
Its just hard to accept, said Ross Russell.
He lived next door to Cicero for 44 years.
I really have missed Anthony. He was just a great neighbor, and I miss him greatly. I really do, he said.
Neither Russell nor Christopher can say whether the bushes contributed to the wrecks theyve witnessed over the year, but hope, now that theyre gone, the number of wrecks will decrease.
Anything that improves visibility is a positive thing, said Russell.
