DPS: Several weeks before investigators know if alcohol was factor in fatal collision

A trooper with the Texas Department of Public Safety told KFDM News it could be several weeks or more before investigators know if alcohol was a factor in a collision that killed a former West Brook High School.

The vehicles collided Saturday night on Highway 124 near Winnie.

At least six people were hurt.

One driver was killed, 24 year old J. Derek Tremont.  He was a West Brook High School graduate and worked in Beaumont..

Troopers say he crossed the center line and struck the other vehicle.

One woman in Tremont's car was critically hurt. Doctors in Galveston are treating her.

Several other people received less serious injuries including the other driver.
