Man arrested in connection to kidnapping, sexual assault
A 20-year-old Beaumont man was arrested Friday in connection to a kidnapping and sexual assault, according to the Beaumont Police Department.
An informant with BPD led police to Dijon V. Cooper and he was charged with three counts of aggravated kidnapping and one count of aggravated sexual assault, according to police.
The 36-year-old woman had just left the Elmo Willard Library with her newborn and 1-year-old child and as she approached her vehicle, the man contronted her, forced her and her children into the car, and made her drive to the 700 block of East Lucas Street. The man was holding an object in his hand, which the woman thought was a weapon.
Once they were in the 700 block of East Lucas, the man sexually assaulted the woman, according to police, and after the assault they said he forced her to drive away and as she did she saw two men working near the side of the road. She began to scream and she stopped the car. The men came to help and the suspect ran away.
Later that week an informant gave information to a BPD patrol officer that led to the identity of a suspect and detectives followed up to determine the man's identity and involvement, according to police.
Officers from BPD's street crimes unit located Cooper at about 2 p.m. Friday in the 2800 block of Gulf and took him into custody.
Cooper gave detectives a voluntary statement confessing to the crime and following the statement, officers transported him to the county jail and booked him on the four warrants, each of which has a $100,000 bond.
