But relatives and Investigators say there's little doubt it is Guillory's body, first responders pulled from the LNVA canal Monday morning not far from his home off Old Sour Lake Road.
Relatives say they last saw Guillory when they went to bed at midnight and when they woke up Sunday morning, he was gone.
Relatives of John Guillory got on a four wheeler and resumed their search for him Monday morning near Old Sour Lake Road in Jefferson County.
Man, I couldn't believe it, I couldnt believe this, said Peter Anderson.
Peter Anderson is Guillory's nephew. Some relatives waited by Guillory's horse, Ginger, while others looked for their loved one.
I miss him, said Anderson.
Family and friends found a body shortly after eight Monday morning in the LNVA canal, only a few hundred yards from his home. They had little doubt it was Guillory.
He's taken it hard...Joe...he's taking it hard, said Anderson.
Joe Guillory had cared for his brother since he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's.
You turn your head for one second and they can wander away, said Rod Carroll.
Jefferson County Deputy Rod Carroll says this was the second time in two months Guillory has wandered away from home.
At least forty volunteers searched for Guillory Sunday, but couldn't find him.
Volunteers with China, Nome, Bevil Oaks, Texas Department of Corrections, and Beaumont Police Department gave away their labor day Sunday to be searching, said Carroll.
With the search over and the family sure the body is Guillory's, they're comforting one another.
We're gonna stick together, we're not gonna fall apart, said Anderson.
They say that's what John Guillory would have wanted his family sticking together, caring for his horse and carrying on no matter what.
