Pilot suffers heart attack and dies during flight
HOUSTON KHOU and AP
A medical emergency forced a Seattle-bound United Airlines flight from Houston to land in Boise late Thursday.
The flight's captain suffered a heart attack in-flight. After an emergency landing he was rushed to the hospital where he later died, a spokesman at Saint Alphonsus Hospital confirmed to news agencies.
Boise airport spokeswoman Patti Miller said the emergency landing occurred just before 8 p.m.
Witnesses on the plane said a co-pilot landed the aircraft while those in the cabin performed CPR.
United Airlines spokeswoman Christen David said paramedics met the Boeing 737 after it landed and took the crew member to the hospital.
"I am sad to confirm that our co-worker passed away last night," said David in a statement to the media. "Our thoughts are with his family at this time."
David declined to identify the pilot.
The flight, with 161 passengers onboard, left Boise later in the night and landed in Seattle shortly after midnight.
