Praying for Beaumont

BEAUMONT- by Haley Bull

Churches united in prayer Sunday afternoon for the 11th annual "Pray Beaumont Prayer Drive."

Held on the last Saturday of every September,  churches caravan around the city stopping at different points to pray. Heavy rain deterred the normal 40-mile route this year, moving the prayers indoors.

"You got to pray regardless if it's raining or sunshine, it's not a weather thing," Trinity Church's Assistant Pastor Roosevelt Henry said.

Pastors took turns leading prayers for different aspects of Beaumont.

"One of the reasons that we pray for Beaumont is to do our  part in making sure Beaumont is a peaceful and prosperous and a healthy place to live and we believe that prayer makes a difference," Pastor Howard Cameron of Trinity Church said. "We believe it with all our hearts."

A few things people prayed for included education, safety, and  unity.

"If you can get your pastors together you have the people together. And of course we'll be represented by people from different denominations, different cultures and so that makes a difference too," Cameron said.

Despite different churches and denominations, people prayed for one thing they all have in common, Beaumont.
