Child abuse investigation; 1 year old has several injuries

BEAUMONT - by Ashley Gaston - A one year old Beaumont girl is recovering from fractured ribs and in the custody of Child Protective Services.

The 1-year-old was flown from a local hospital to Texas Children's Hospital in Houston. Doctors say her injuries are consistent with abuse. Beaumont police are investigating.

Doctors there say the little girl has four fractured ribs, a two inch cut to her liver and swelling in her skull tissues.

The mother lives at Plymouth Village Apartments on Helbig Street in Beaumont. The toddler arrived at a local hospital on Sunday September 15th.

The toddler was then flown to Texas Childrens Hospital in Houston where she was treated. The toddler spent six days at Texas Childrens Hospital before she was released on Friday.

Child Protective Services says despite the injuries, the baby is just about back to normal. CPS now has custody of the child.
