Man charged with biting, hitting police officers

BEAUMONT - Beaumont Police have arrested a man accused of hitting one police officer in the jaw and biting another one.

Someone called 911 at about 1 a.m. Wednesday to report a man in their backyard in the 600 block of East Lavaca. Police responded and say the man was trying to siphon gasoline.

Officers spotted the man near Woodrow and Maddox. They tried to detain him but he broke away  and tried to run.

According to investigators, the suspect struck an officer in the jaw and bit another officer. Police arrested the suspect, Ricky Odell, 47, of Beaumont, and took him into custody. Neither officer was seriously hurt.

They arrested Odell for two counts of assault on a public servant, evading detention and resisting arrest.
