Twins found locked in closet naked; no food
LIBERTY COUNTY - A mother and aunt face charges after twin 2-year-old girls where found locked in a room nude and without food Saturday morning in Liberty County, deputies said.
According to the Liberty County Sheriffs Office, Amy Castillo, 27, is charged with abandonment/endangerment of a child, while charges are pending against her sister, Brandy Dominguez, 20, the mother of the twins.
Investigators said that at 8:55 a.m. Cpl. Michael Strait, with the Sheriffs Office, was called to meet Federal Probation Officers after they had gone to the residence located on County Road 2283 to check on Dominguez as she is on pre-trial release for a human trafficking charge.
Dominguez was not at home when they arrived but Castillo, the twins aunt, was and allowed the officers to enter the home.
The officers said they heard scratching coming from a door leading to a bedroom. With Castillos permission, the double-locked door was opened and the officers found the twins in the room.
Both girls were nude and did have any food or toys, officers said. Strait said there was only one blanket on the floor and the room smelled strongly of human waste.
Liberty County EMS was summoned to the scene and checked the girls physical condition, which appeared to be satisfactory. Child Protective Services was contacted and they will do a case evaluation on the disposition of the twin girls.
The Sheriffs Office is in the process of preparing a case to forward to the District Attorneys office for possible charges against Dominguez, who was not home when the girls were found.
