Teen remembers father and uncle killed in I-10 wreck

PORT NECHES - By Justin Hinton, KFDM News

A teenager is remembering her father and uncle with an art project after the two were killed in a wreck on an Orange County highway Monday night.

A spokesperson for the Department of Public Safety says twins, Johnny and Rohnny Barton were heading west on the service road of Interstate 10 near mile marker 878 Monday night.

Driver, Johnny Barton, lost control of the truck and crashed into a truck tractor semi-trailer in the eastbound direction of the highway, said Trooper Stephanie Davis.

The two died at the scene while the driver of the truck tractor semi-trailer was not injured.

When I woke up this morning, I was like, I hope last night was a dream, said Johnnys daughter, Ashley Barton. Then I went on Facebook and looked at my newsfeed, and it was not a dream at all. I was like balling.

The 17-year-old went to the scene of the wreck and collected what remained of the truck.

She plans to convert one piece of the damaged truck to a home-made measuring board to track the height of her nephew.

Her grandfather also gave her a hat and t-shirt belonging to her father.

This was his favorite hat, she said. He wore it like every day to work and everything. And then I got his favorite t-shirt from my PaPaw today.

She says the next step will be gathering family members to arrange funeral services.
