ORSO and Justice of the Peace: 5-year-old boy accidentally shoots, kills himself

UPDATE: ORANGE COUNTY - A five-year-old boy accidentally shot himself in the head and killed himself in Orange County, according to information provided to KFDM News by the Orange County Sheriff's Office and Justice of the Peace Rodney Price.

Investigators say the child was shot at about 3 p.m. Monday on Roberts Road, in the Quiet Village subdivision north of Highway 12.

The Orange county Sheriff's Office received a call concerning an unresponsive child and when they arrived at the scene, deputies met with the caller and found a child at the residence, according to Chief Deputy Clint Hodgkinson.

The child appeared to have sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head, Hodgkinson said.

The boy was left with a babysitter at the child's home in the 1200 block of Roberts Road, Hodgkinson said.

The babysitter heard a noise in another room of the residence and found the child with the injury, Hodgkinson said.

There was no phone access available at the residence and the babysitter carried the child to the child's grandparent's address on Scott Drive where emergency personal were then contacted, Hodgkinson said.

The child died at the scene.

Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace Rodney Price has ordered an autopsy.

No arrests have been made and Hodgkinson said the investigation is ongoing.
